Last Rites Held In Nevada For Mrs. Eva Appelgate

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Appelgate, 91, for more than 80 years a resident of Story county, were held from the Ryan funeral home in Nevada Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. with the Rev. LeRoy Sargent officiating.

Harry Christianson was at the organ playing a number of appropriate selections during the service, "Abide With Me," "Old Rugged Cross", "In the Garden" and "A Perfect Day."

An unusually large number of floral offerings testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held in the community in which she spent so many years.

The casket bearers were Clayton Robinson, Don Pardee, William Wall, Paul Farren, Glen Appelgate, and Dorrell Appelgate.

Committal was in the Nevada cemetery.

The following obituary was read during the funeral service:

"Eva Morgan Appelgate, daughter of Nelson and Martha Morgan was born at Brush Grove, Illinois, April 6, 1854, and passed away December 21, 1945 at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 15 days.

"She came to Iowa at the age of nine years and has resided here since that time.

"She was united in marriage with Lorenzo D. Appelgate October 13, 1873 at Nevada, Iowa To this union were born four children: Wilbern A. Appelgate, Geo. Ira Appelgate, Vinton I. Appelgate and Ada Appelgate Banks. She was preceded in death by her husband, and two sons, Wilbern and George, also three brothers, one sister and one grandchild. Since the death of her husband twenty years ago she has lived with her children, dividing her time between Nevada and Tipton.

Mrs. Appelgate was formerly a member of the United Brethren church, and a few years ago transferred her membership to the Methodist church in Nevada.

She leaves to mourn her passing two children, Vinton I. Appelgate, and Ada Appelgate Banks, two sisters, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, also other relatives and friends.
