Hold Final Services For Osmund Vangness

Last rites for Osmund Vangness were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the St. Petri Lutheran church in Story City following a prayer service in the home. The Rev. S. T. Nelson, who officiated, also sang a number in Norwegian, "O Hvor Saligt Det Skal Blive." Mrs. Robert Hermanson sang "There is a Blessed Home."

Burial was in the Story City cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were Andrew Vigness, Louis Braland, Wier Ericson, Martin Holland, Martin Wierson and Martin Tjernagel.

Obituary

The following obituary of the deceased was read "Osmund Vangness, son of Osmund and Bertha Vangness, was born in Sovde, Norway, Jan. 6, 1862. He passed away in his home in Story City on Saturday, Jan. 28, 1950, at the age of 88 years and 22 days.

"Mr. Vangness immigrated to America in 1883, coming first to Seneca, Ill., where he worked for two years before coming to Iowa, where he spent the rest of his life.

"On Dec. 9, 1887, he was united in marriage to Anna Charlson Grov. Four children were born to this union: Mrs. Hans (Bertha) Tweed of Pequot Lakes, Minn., Jacob of West Concord, Minn., Oscar and Rachel of Story City. Mrs. Vangness preceded her husband in death on April 21, 1936.

St. Petri Member

"Mr. Vangness was a member of North St. Petri church until he moved to Story City in 1921, at which time he joined the St. Petri congregation. Osmund gave of his time and energy to serve both of these congregations. He gave 24 years in service at trustee to the two congregations. As long as health permitted he was regular in attending both Sunday services and mid-week Bible study."

Surviving are his four children, 19 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren besides other relatives and large number of friends.
