MABEL V. NOWNING
IOWA CENTER--Funeral services for Mabel V. Nowning were held Tuesday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. from the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell with the Rev. Stanley Farmer officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Jim Summittt, organist.
Pall bearers were C. E. Peirce, Carl Hill, Sr., Grant Vincent, Nathan Vincent, Clarence Godby and Milton Mohr. Burial was in the Iowa Center cemetery.
Life Sketch
Mabel V. Higley Nowning was born October 12, 1875 to Mr. and Mrs. Hector Higley in Iowa Center and died Sunday, June 14, 1959 at the Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Nevada, Iowa, after a long illness. She died at the age of 83 years. She had been a resident of the Iowa Center community until November 1957 when she moved to the Nursing Home.
She was united in marriage to J. C. Nowning in 1907 at Iowa Center. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Nowning was former member of the Evangelical Church of Iowa Center and a member of the Iowa Center Cemetery society.
Surviving are a son, James Erwin Nowning; two brothers, Rodney R. Higley, Olympia, Wash. and Almon H. Higley, Thompson, Iowa; a sister, Leta M. Higley, Des Moines; four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Higley, Thompson, Miss Leta Higley, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Ed King, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Nowning, Sioux Rapids and Mrs. Marie Archeskie, Story City.
