THREE DEATHS THIS WEEK
Two Funerals Held In Roland and One Held In Story City

J. O. Anderson

Funeral services were held Friday for O. J. Anderson of Story City, who died Tuesday last week in Des Moines. Services were held at the Anderson home at 1:30, and 2 o'clock from St. Petri church. Interment was in the Story City cemetery.

John O. Anderson, the son of Ove and Aagata Anderson, was born in Howard township near Roland, July 6, 1871. He was baptized in the St. Petri Lutheran church by Rev. Nils Amlund, and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran church at Roland.

Mr. Anderson was united in marriage to Betsey Henryson on March 9, 1899, by the Rev. O. P. Vangsnes. Twin sons and six daughters were born to this union.

He farmed northeast of Story City for 22 years, moving to Story City in the year 1921. He was active in Farm Bureau work, organizing farm Bureau groups throughout the state for 20 years. During this time he was also a representative for the State Farm Mutual Insurance company. The past eight years he has been retired from his farm bureau and insurance activities.

Mr. Anderson was a faithful member of the St. Petri congregation, serving the church on various boards during his years in Story City.

He passed away in Des Moines on September 27, 1949, following a long period of failing health. He was 78 years, 2 months, and 20 days of age at the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife Betsey; two son, Orville A. and Howard S. of Story City; six daughters, Mrs. J. R. Heggen (Amy) of Des Moines, Mrs. R. O. Solyst (Alma) of Roland, Mrs. W. Langheim (Martha) of New York, Mrs. V. E. Smith (Jeanette) of Des Moines, Bessie of Des Moines, and Mrs. R. H. Grummer (Le Ora) of Madison, Wisc; three sisters and one brother, Mrs. John Egenes, twin sisters Nellie and Ellen Anderson, all of Minneapolis and Johannes T. Anderson of New Sharon, Iowa. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

At the prayer service in the home, Leslie Henderson sang "One Sweetly solemn Thought," and at the church Mrs. robert Kenney sang "Come to My Heart Lord Jesus", and Rev. Nelson sang "Den Store Hvide Flok We Se".

Pall bearers were six grandchildren, Ronald Heggen, Richard Heggen, Dwayne Solyst, Robert Anderson, Eugene Matson and Richard Sopeland.

Those attending services from out of town were from Minneapolis, New York City, Madison, Wisc., Northfield, Minn., New Sharon, Soiux Rapids, Belle Plaine, Forest City, Bedford, Spencer, Nevada, Boone, Newton, Eldora, Des Moines, Webster City, Roland, McCallsburg, Ames, Randall, Ellsworth, Jewell and Radcliffe.
