EARLY PIONEER PASSES AWAY
Mrs. Aslak Thompson Passed Away Last Monday at the Age of Ninety-One Years. One of the Early Pioneers of This Place.
Mrs. Aslak Thompson, nee Ragnhild Jacobsdatter Aabo, was born in Sevde, in Ryfylke, Norway, on January 13, 1831, and died at her home in Roland on December 4, 1922, thereby being 91 years, 10 months and 21 days old. She emigrated from Norway in 1858 and settled in Lisbon, Ill. On November 14, 1858, she was united in marriage to Aslak Thompson the ceremony performed by Rev. P. A. Rasmussen. In the spring of 1865, they moved west and settled on the Thompson farm south of Roland.
They marriage was blessed with 9 children of which 4 are dead. Besides the husband, 5 children mourn the departed: Mrs. John Nereim, Abel Thompson and Oscar Thompson of this place; Mrs. John Halvorson of Dallas, Wis., and Mrs. Henry Stole of Forest City; also 36 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are being conducted from Bergen Lutheran church this afternoon. She has been a faithful member of this congregation and attended meetings regularly until later years when she has been unable to do so because of frail health.
