Obituary of Mrs. John Irvine

Alveretta May, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Watkins was born near New Providence, Harding county, Iowa, September 18, 1871. Some time later she moved with her parents to farm north of Colo and the family home was in Colo or vicinity until it was broken up by the death of the mother about eight years ago. December 25, 1891 the subject of this sketch was united in marriage to John Irvine. Two daughters were born to them, Jessie Louise and Olive Susie. She lived a conscientious devoted Christian life. Was a loving wife and mother a good neighbor and a true friend. She was a member of the U. B. church at Shipley. After an illness of but a few days duration pneumonia claimed its victim and she passed from this life Tuesday November 24, 1914 at her home near Shipley. She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband and two daughters, four brothers and five sisters besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the United Brethren church at Shipley conducted by her former pastor Rev. D. C. Violet of Madrid. Interment was made in the Colo cemetery by the side of her parents. The brothers and sister who were in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. C. H. Moore of Collins, Mrs. Cora Richardson of Rolfe, Mr. and Mrs. George Heard of Meltonville, C. E. Watkins of Jefferson, South Dakota and E. J. Watkins of Cedar Rapids. Those who were unable to be present were O. H. Watkins of Clinton, C. L. Watkins of Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Howard Baldwin of California and Mrs. Fred Ginter of Strool, South Dakota. Altho Mrs. Irvine has not lived in this community for number of years there are still many friends here who hold her in kindly remembrance and extend heart felt sympathy to the bereaved ones.
