Funeral at Cambridge for Mrs. Elizabeth Ostem; Pioneer

Special to the Journal
Cambridge, July 19--Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Ostrem, 78, who died at her home here July 11, were held at the Lutheran church Friday, with her pastor Peter Buland in charge. Burial was in the Cambridge cemetery.

Elizabeth Gurine Sester, a daughter of John and Helga Sesker was born in Kansas, July 11, 1860 and passed away at Cambridge, Iowa, on her 78th birthday. Having lived in the faith of her Savior she received as her birthday token the crown of eternal life.

At the age of 18 months she came with the family to Story county in covered wagon, settling on a farm just west of Cambridge and later moving north of Cambridge.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Fjeldberg church and later became a member of the Lutheran church at Cambridge.

On December 29, 1887 she was united in marriage to Mons Olson Ostrem who preceded her in death June 1, 1930. Those who are left to mourn her departure are three daughters, two sons, namely, Ole, Helga Westvold, Andrew, Pauline Newgaard, Caroline Hite; sixteen grandchildren, three brothers, John, Carl, Jake Sesker and other relatives and a host of friends.

Her parents, two granddaughters and two brothers have preceded her in death.

She was a king and faithful mother. Her life can nicely be compared to the "purity of the flowers in her garden which she so cherished. As the flowers grew in their unassuming way so did she travel life's path scattering sunshine wherever she went. Blest be her memory."
