OBITUARY OF MRS. JACOB RAY

Pioneer Resident Laid to Rest on Friday.

Miss Lucy J. White was born at Marietta, Ohio, July 8, 1846. Here she grew to young girlhood, when her parents moved to Iowa, locating near Iowa Center. On Sept. 24, 1868, she was married to Jacob Ray of Story county and they went to housekeeping on a farm southeast of Nevada, later moving near Iowa Center, on the homestead of Mr. Ray's father which farm they owned until the present time. About 19 years ago they left the farm, moving to Nevada where they purchased the present home. Two years ago this last February MR. Ray passed to his reward and since then Mrs. Ray has lived alone at the home until her death, which occurred on Tuesday, March 25, 1924, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 17 days.

To Mr. and Mrs. Ray five daughters were born, one dying in infancy. The living are Mrs. F. C. Sutherland, Nevada; Mrs. F. M. Thornton, Nevada township; Mrs. M. Mathison, Nevada; and Mrs. Geo. Coughenour of Indian Creek township.

Early in life she made a profession of her faith in Christ as her Savior and united with the Evangelical church at Iowa Center, where she remained a member until her death. She was a consistent Christian and loved to talk of the Christian experience and life. While in Nevada she frequently, as long as able, attended the other churches in Nevada. She leaves to mourn her death the four children, 8 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two brothers, Joseph White of Bristow, Okla., and Jas. T. White of Des Moines; other relatives and a great many friends. She was true companion, a devoted and loving mother, a devout Christian and leaves behind a good hope and precious life to cherished in memory by the loved ones and friends.

The funeral services were conducted from the home Friday morning by Rev. Jackson Giddens, pastor of the Methodist church, after which the mortal remains were taken to Iowa Center and laid to rest beside her companion through life.
