SAD DEATH AT GILBERT

Passing of Mildred Hansman Came Not Unexpected

Special to the Journal.
Gilbert, July 30.--Word was spread over our community Thursday evening that Mildred Hansman was dead, although very sudden her death was not unexpected. More than a year ago she had a maliganant tumor removed from her left elbow. It again returned and the arm was removed last November. She again improved and though in a weakened condition she returned to school after Jan. 1st and completed her year's work in high school in the sophomore class. I was observed by her friends that she was failing during the early summer and soon after school closed she was really ill. The old growth had again returned, this time attacking the lungs. From the first of June she spent most of her time on the couch in the living room of her home, and desired to be dressed to the very end, and ready to greet her many friends with her friendly smile, and all found a welcome, and on one called but found others there with flowers or some choice dainty to tempt her appetite. Thursday morning was the first day she said she was too tired to dress but requested and was permitted to sit for short time in the afternoon in her wheel chair.

About 7 o'clock, Thursday evening her mother raised her up give her a drink. She sayas: "Now lay me down again, I am so tired." Those were he last words, with almost her last breath.

The grief of her many friends was lessened by knowing the end which was known to be inevitable, and much dreaded proved to be so easy. Mildred had been in poor health so long that she never realized but that this too, would end, and expressed the thought to many during last few days that she must get about soon to be ready for school again. But the Junior class will never forget the absent one.

The largest crowd that ever gathered at the Gilbert church were present at 3:30 for the funeral service of Mildred Hansman.

Mildred was but 15 years of age but the cheerful, hopeful way she met her past years suffering endeared her to every one who knew her. Rev. Davis preached the sermon. The male quartet with Marion Kent as pianist had charge of the music. Six young men were pall bearers and six high school girl class mates were honorary pall bearers.
