Obituary of a Pioneer Woman

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Wood, who died at the home of her sister near Maxwell, were held at the church at Iowa Center, Tuesday afternoon. Rev. B. H. Guthrie, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Maxwell, conducted the services. Interment took place in the Iowa Center cemetery.

Mrs. Jennie Vincent-Wood, daughter of Hiram and Mary Ann Vincent, was born March 6, 1854, and departed this life September 25, 1932 at the age of 78 years, six months and nineteen days. She leaves to mourn her departure five nieces and eight nephews.

When a young girl she gave her heart to God and joined the Methodist church of Iowa Center, then transferred her letter to the Christian church when later she moved to Nebraska.

Many of the old neighbors will remember he as their teacher for she taught the Kenedy and White Haven schools several terms. Then she left here to teach for a time in Nebraska. There she met and married J. C. Wood* on July 5, 1887 at Chadron, Neb.

Although no children were born to this union her mother heart opened to the needs of her sister's thirteen-year-old boy, Orie Dickenson*, who made his home with them. He preceded her in death three years ago.

During their stay in Nebraska they lived on a cattle ranch, then moved to Missouri, where they farmed for several years.

About five years ago they moved back to Iowa to the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Vina Vincent, where two months after they came on July 26, Mr. Wood passed away. She continued to make her home with Mrs. Vincent until the time of her death.

The latter part of January she had a serious illnes from which she rallied for a time. About the first of June she had a relapse and was confined to her bed until the time of her death.

She was an unassuming, energetic woman who was always willing to do more than her share of the daily tasks and will be greatly missed by her many friends as well as those nearest her.
