Christian Christianson Was Pioneer Resident

Slater, Oct. 12--Christian Christianson, 82, who died at his home in Lake Crystal, Minn., October 1, was one of the pioneer resident of this community coming here in 1868 and residing here until 1904 when he moved to Lincoln county, Minn. There they resided until the fall of 1919 when they moved to Lake Crystal where he resided until his death.

Christian Christianson was born in Skien, Norway, July 2, 1845. He came to America at the age of nineteen years, and settled in Chicago and later came to Story county. In 1870 he was married to Augusta Houge. Ten children were born to this union. Two passed away in infancy. Those living are Mrs. Isabel Halverson, Thomas and George Christianson of Slater, Joseph Christianson and Mrs. Mabel Haage of Des Moines, Mrs. Madelia Swanson of Hettinger, North Dakota, Lewis Christianson of Marshall, Minn., and Sanford Christianson of Minneapolis. His first wife died September 11, 1899. December 4, 1900 he was married to Mrs. Hannah Twit. One daughter Mrs. Myrtle Hellekson was born to this union. In the spring of 1904 they moved to Lincoln county, Minnesota where they resided till the fall of 1919. They then moved to Lake Crystal, Minn., where he resided till his death. Besides the widow and nine children, there are also five step children, Mrs. Bell Freeland of St. Louis Park, Minn., Thomas Twit of Minneapolis, Mrs. Margaret Berhow of Huxley, Arne and Ed Twit of Slater. He leaves 37 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. All the children were present at the services here with the exception of Mrs. Swanson of Hettinger, N. D. He had been failing in health for a number of years. August 28th he was confined to his bed and all that loving care and medical skill could do, was in vain. He died October 1 at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 29 days. Services were held at the Lincoln church here Tuesday, October 4th.
