She was daughter of John and Ruth Clifton and was the last of their family. The father, mother, brother and sister have preceded her to the great beyond. At the age of 16 years she joined the Baptist church at Illinois and later she united with the Methodist church at Johnson Grove, Iowa. In later years she was unable to attend but lived a faithful christian life until the end. At the age of 6 years she came to Iowa with her parents and homesteaded near Oskaloosa and later moved back to Maroa county, Ill. They lived there until after her father's death then the mother and family came back to Marshall county, Iowa at which place the deceased was married to John H. Spurling January 1, 1868. To this union nine children were born of which three have preceded her to the great beyond, they are Arthur, Clarence and Mrs. Sarah Rahfeldt. The ones left to mourn her loss are her aged husband and 6 children; Charlie D., Albert and William of Nevada; Mrs. Annie Yocum of Maxwell; Mrs. Minnie Bates of Ames and Edward of Williams, Ia., all of which were at her bedside except Edward who was unable to be here. She was a patient sufferer who never complained during her 6 weeks of illness during which time all was done that loving hands could do. She was a true wife and loving mother and always thought of her family's welfare. Beside her family she leaves 27 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren together with many other relatives and friends. She has resided around in Nevada for the past 33 years.
