100 Year Old Story City Woman Dies In Nevada; Servies Sat.
Mrs. Mina L. Wiggins*, 100, died at the Gilmore Nursing Home in Nevada at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Wiggins was born September 28, 1866 on a farm south of Story City, the oldest of eight children born to Royal and Merneldie Sheffield*. She was a Story City resident all her life except the past year when she became a resident of the Gilmore Nursing Home.
Survivors are two sons and two daughters - Mrs. Gwendolyn MacDowell of Nevada, Mrs. Zella Bickelhaupt of Story City, Vern Wiggins and Ernest G. Wiggins, Jr., both of Story City, six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, one brother, Clinton Sheffield of Story City.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter, two sons, her husband, Ernest George in 1922 and six brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Wiggins started teaching in Story City at the age of 16 and at one time, she and her husband were engaged in the restaurant business in Story City.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Grace E.U.B. Church in Story City with Rev. Paul H. Beckman in charge. Burial will be in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. The body will be at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City until noon Saturday.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Alzina Lillian (Sheffield) Wiggins was known as "Nina." She was the daughter of Royal Peter Sheffield and Permelia Mornilvia Squier/Squire.
