Obituaries

Louella M. Wendel
Feb. 11, 1898, to May 31, 1992

Louella M. Wendel, 94, of Story City died of congestive heart failure at Bethany Manor, Story City.

She was born to William C. and Sophia (Love) Stark at Newburg. She was a longtime resident and lived at Bethany Manor since Sept. 8, 1987. She married Elmer C. Wendel on March 31, 1920, at VanHorne. He preceded her in death on March 9, 1980.

She was an elementary teacher in Tracy, Moulton, Story City, North Grant, Fernald and Nevada. She was a member of the Nevada United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxilliary, Audubon Club, Nevada Historical Society and the Story County Hospital Auxilliary. She was an honorary member of Beta Sigma Phi and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Pete Van Buskirk of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother Harry Stark of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Viola Kalseim of Story City and Mamie Sunley of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and two brothers, Walter Stark and Edward Stark.

Services were held Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Nevada, with the Rev. William Ballard officiating. Burial was at Story City Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, was in charge of arrangements.
