DEATHS
Guy Rod
Funeral services for Guy Rod, Story City, were held Friday afternoon, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. Pastor C. A. Gisselquist officiated with Chaplain M. C. Hagedorn of Story City Bethany Manor assisting.
Organist was Mrs. Harold S. Olson. Kenneth Peterson sang, "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "How Great Thou Art."
Pallbearers were Bruce Proctor, Richard Proctor, Michael Shaw, Steven Rod, John Larson and Willard Rod.
Interment was in Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Guy Rod was born at Roland on August 2, 1891, the son of Erick and Julia Rod.
On Dec. 14, 1916, he was united in marriage to Cornelia Jacobson of Story city. They farmed southwest of Story City from 1916 to the fall of 1924. After approximately two years rest from an illness, he went into business in Roland in 1926.
In 1933 he started the Rod Oil Company in Story City and operated it until he retirement in 1957.
Rod served several terms on the Story City council and a number of years as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent and deacon in Immanuel Lutheran Church.
After three years of failing health, he died at the Story City Bethany Manor infirmary on Thursday morning, Dec. 11 at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 9 days.
Surviving are his wife, Cornelia; one son, Myron Rod of Story City; three daughters, Mrs. Glendora Proctor, Des Moines; Mrs. Myrle Shaw, Story City and Mrs. Helen Heusinkveld, Springfield, Ohio. Eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Rod of Potomac, Md. and two sisters, Mrs. Overt Holland of Roland and Mrs. W. N. Larson, Story City, also survive.
