Last Rites For Ole C. Roth In Story City Luth.

Ole C. Roth was born August 19, in Oslo, Norway. His parents were Gustav and Anna Marie Roth. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Norway. In 1907, at the age of 16, he came to the United States with an older brother, Wilhelm. Another brother, Carl had immigrated to this country two years before and together they made their home with an uncle and aunt in Chicago, Ill. They worked days in a cabinet shop and attended school in the evening. He spent the first two years in Chicago.

In 1909, Roth came to Story City to make his home with the late E. M. Olson and family and doing farm work. Later he served as town marshall for 18 years. In the latter years, he did carpentry until failing health compelled him to quit.

On May 8, 1930 he was united in marriage to Karen Roesen in the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland by the Rev. Olaf Holen. He served his country in World War I; was a charter member of the American Legion Post of Story City; a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Story City; and member of the Iowa Police Association.

He is survived by his wife Karen; one daughter, (Jeannie) Mrs. Robert Lee of Alliance, Ohio; three grandchildren, Karen, Kristi and John Lee; three sisters and one brother in Norway and two brothers in this country, Carl of Chicago and Wilhelm of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters and one brother in Norway.

He died on Sunday, April 14 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 25 days.

Services

Funeral services were held in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, April 17 with Pastor Harold T. Masted officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Arvie Jacobson, organist, and Mrs. Benjamin Anderson and Truman Quam vocalists.

Pallbearers were T. M. Holm, Alfred Jacobson, L. B. Brattebo, B. M. Howell, Silas Espe and Theodore Larson. Burial was made in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
