Services in Story City For T. J. Quam, 91

Funeral services for T. J. Quam were conducted on Saturday afternoon, July 22, from Immanuel Lutheran church in Story City, preceded by a prayer service at the home. The Rev. A. O. Skibsrud was in charge of the rites.

Special music was provided at the home by Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Sunde in a vocal duet, Mrs. Sunde being a granddaughter of Mrs. Quam. Mrs. Patricia Yuston, also a granddaughter, rendered a vocal selection at the church service. Donald Boyd of Roland also sang a solo.

Pastor Ernest Quam of Graettinger spoke on behald of the family.

A large number of memorials were rendered in memory of Mr. Quam.

Pall bearers were Sterling Anderson, Loren Hendrickson, Arden Quam, Luther Quam, Gordon Quam and Harvey Lilland, grandsons of the deceased.

Obituary

Thomas J. Quam, son of Siri and Torbjorn Quam, was born in Nerstrand, Norway, June 10, 1859.

At the age of 24 he immigrated to the United States coming to Ames and Huxley, Iowa. After a short period of labor in the development of cities, such as Des Moines and Marshalltown, he spent the balance of his active years farming.

On Dec. 24, 1887, he married Sarah Sjurson in Story City with whom he maintained a Christian home for more than 62 years, in which they reared their seven surviving children. One daughter, Selma, passed away at the age of one year.

Survivors

Together with Mrs. Quam, age 86, the following children survive: Mrs. Ole Lilland of Estherville, James of Story City, Theodore of Willmar, Minn., Mrs. Benjamin Anderson of Story City, Otis of Stanhope, Truman of Boone and Mrs. Caper Hendrickson of Kamrar. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Mr. Quam was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and remained active in his church to the end. While the family resided in Hamilton county he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, near Stanhope and upon coming to Story City 30 years ago he has been affiliated with the Immanuel Lutheran congregation.

At the time of his death, July 19, Mr. Quam was 91 years of age.
