DEATH
James T. Quam
Funeral services for James T. Quam, 82, Story City, were held Monday, June 18 at 2 p.m. from Immanuel Lutheran church, Story City. Pastor C.A. Gisselquist officiated.
Mrs. Harold Olson, organist accompanied Mrs. Richard Anderson who sang "Nearer - Still Nearer" and "Softly and Tenderly."
Pallbearers were William Hetland, Mark Houge, Ronald Jacobson, James Houge, Dan Burkhart and Steven Quam. Honorary pallbearers were Arnold Ericson, Arthur Anderson, Sanford Ness, Andrew Hanson, Arthur Frandson and Robert Kalseim. Burial was in the Story City Municipal cemetery.
James T. Quam, son of Tom J. and Sara Quam, was born southeast of Stanhope on Feburary 18, 1891. He was baptized in the Clear Lake and Ellsworth Township Lutheran church and was confirmed in the St. Paul Lutheran church of Stanhope, by pastor M.N. Knutson. He passed away suddenly at his home in Story City on Thursday afternoon June 14.
On February 14, 1914, he was united in marriage to Sella Teigland. To this union five children were born all of whom survive. One daughter Mrs. Gaylord (Lila) Houge of Jewell; four sons: Rev. Ernest Quam, Story City, now residing at Riverside Manor in Ames; Luther Quam of Stanhope, Arden Quam of Jewell and Delbert Quam of Story City.
The first 15 years of their married life they resided on a farm near Elmore, Minnesota. In 1930 they moved to a farm northeast of Randall, Iowa. In 1957 they retired to their home in Story City.
His wife, Sella, preceded him in death by two months. He was also preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Selma. He is survived by his five children, twelve grandchildren, and on great-grandson, three sisters, Mrs. Selma Lilland of Estherville, Mrs. Clara Anderson, Story City and Mrs. Casper (Stella) Hendrickson of Stanhope; three brothers, Ted Quam and Otis Quam, Story City and Truman Quam of Boone.
