Story City Woman die In Crash

Mrs. Mary Christine Peterson, 86 year old lifetime resident of Story City was fatally injured early Sunday afternoon in an accident at the junction of the Story City blacktop and route 69.

The 1961 Chevrolet, driven by her daughter, Mrs. Alma L. Hendrickson, 61, collided with a Ford driven by Loren M. Alvestad, 46, of Williams. Passengers in the Alvestad vehicle were Alvestad's wife, Ione, 54; his son, Lonnie, 12 and his father-in-law, Iver Skrovig, 80, of Dows. Mrs. Alvestad is a niece of Keneal Swenson of Nevada.

Passengers in the Alvestad car, who were presumed to be gated. Responsibility for the not seriously injured, were taken to an Ames hospital for examination. Mrs. Peterson, critically hurt, was thrown out of the Hendrickson auto.

Patrolman Gene Hell and Deputy Sheriff Dean Drake investi- accident is yet to be determined. The Hendrickson car was westbound and pulled out on U. S. 69. It was his by the southbound Alvestad car.

Born June 29 1878 on a farm west of Story City, Mrs. Peterson was married March 19, 1902 to Lewis Peterson, who preceded her in death in 1947. The Petersons had lived on a farm northwest of Story City until 1933 when they retired and moved to Story City.

Survivors include one son, Lloyd of Story city; a daughter, Mrs. Alma Hendrickson of Story City and one brother, Walter Nelson of Ames, She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Peterson will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 2 p. m. in Grace E.U.B. Church, Story City, with Rev. H. W. Reigel officiating. Burial will be in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. The body will lie in state until noon Wednesday at the Larson Funeral Home.

The death was the sixth this year for Story County and the unusual thing, all of the fatal crashes have been on Highway 69 or very close to it. One crash was on a country road just off of 69. There have been no train-car fatalities this year either, for the first time in several years.
