Mary Jane Peterson
June 7, 1920, to Jan. 26, 1997

Mary Jane Peterson, 76, of State Center, died Sunday morning Jan. 26, at her home while in the care of Iowa River Hospice. No cause of death was listed.

She was born June 7, 1920, in Cherokee to Clyde and Ellen Leona Balentine. At a young age, her mother was married to John Simons and he and her mother raised from that point. She received her education at the North High School in Des Moines.

On Oct. 29, 1947, she married John K. Peterson III in Sioux City. They resided in Nevada where she was employed with Donnelley Marketing, the Story County Hospital and Tipton's Drug Store. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada, the PEO, the Womens Club and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.

Survivor include her husband John, of Nevada, one daughter, Bonnie (Mrs. Mark) Olson, of Nevada; three sons John K. Peterson IV, of State Center, Mike (and his wife Arlys) Peterson of Nevada and Paul Peterson, of the Veterans Home in Marshalltown; nine grandchildren; and one brother, Donald Simons, of Redfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Wilmer.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Hubler, of the State Center Presbyterian Church, officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice. Wensel-Perrin Funeral Home, State Center, handled arrangements.
