Mrs. Cora McConnell Rites Here Tuesday, Christian Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Cora McConnell were here from the Nevada Christian church Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. W. R. Tuttle officiating.

Mrs. Arlene Huhn, organist, played a number of selections during the service.

The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Mildred Cook and Mrs. Fern Sampson. Lee Cook and Wm. Kitchen were ushers at the church.

The casket bearers were Glenn Bailey, Henry Boten, A. L. Harlow, Marley Lobaugh, Harold Tipton and I. W. Tudor.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Obituary

Cora Mae Andrus was born Dec. 6, 1875 near Norwalk, Iowa, a daughter of Richard an Phoebe Andrus. When she was a small child she came with her family to the Elwell community of Story County. It was here that she, her brothers and sisters attended public school.

At an early age, she made her confession of faith in Christ as her Saviour and was baptized into the fellowship of the Maxwell Christian church. On Nov. 5, 1899, she and her mother transferred their membership to the Christian church of Nevada. Until she was no longer able to do so, Mrs. McConnell was very active in the work of the church.

On Nov. 25, 1903, Cora Mae was united in marriage to Ray McConnell of Nevada. Five children were born into this family, however, one son, Ralph Vincent died in infancy. The other four children attended the public schools of Nevada and united in fellowship with the Christian church, and as a family have been active in the welfare of the church and community.

Even though her sickness prevented her from leaving her home, she never lost an active of prayerful interest in the welfare of her family and church. Her many cards and letters and telephone calls, to other shut-ins and sick ones, were always a bit of sunshine to those who received them.

For several years she has been confined rather closely to her home, but in recent months, she grew physically weaker and passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3, 1959, at the Story County Hospital at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 37 days.

She was preceded in death by an infant son Ralph Vincent and later, in 1930 by her husband, and on Nov. 21, 1958 by another son, Kenneth. Also her three sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are two sons, Richard and Lyle of Nevada and one daughter, Mrs. Robert Odgen of Nevada. She also leaves ten grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Among relatives and friends from out of town in attendance at the funeral services of Mrs. Cora McConnell Tuesday afternoon were: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Whitaker of Mitchellville, Mary Hastie of Albia, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Clark and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Clark of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hastie of Liscomb, and daughter Margaret Hausafus aof Marietta, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Mullen and daughter Darlene of Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Andrus, Mrs. Bill Ellsworth and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Dickerson, also of Des Moines.
