Funeral Services for Chas. Forest Mayo Held On Saturday

Funeral services were held at the Seventh Day Adventist church in Nevada Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. for Charles Forest Mayo, 55, lifelong resident of Nevada, who passed away Wednesday, July 7, after an illness of five years.

The last rites were in charge of Elder A. L. Miller assisted by Elder W. Lyons.

"Asleep in Jesus" and "I Shall Be Satisfied Then" were sung by Lawrence Johnston and Mrs. Elmer Anderson with Martha Hlad accompanist.

The many beautiful flowers were arranged and cared for by Mrs. Albert Olson and Mrs. Sam White.

Pall bearers were Andy Hlad, Harry Hlad, Elston Adams, Henry Jensen, Albert Olson and Elmer Anderson.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Obituary

Charles Forest, son of Malinda and Charles Frederick Mayo, was born August 9, 1893 in Brownfield, Nebraska.

He was married to Ethel M. Elmore on July 8, 1914 at the Methodist parsonage in Nevada. To this union were born two children; one son, Elmore, and a daughter, Gwendolyn, now Mrs. Henry Larson.

The family resided in Nevada until the spring of 1926, when Mr. Mayo's work as a carpenter and cabinet maker caused them to move to Ames for a short period. They later resided until his death Wednesday, July 7, 1948, after an illness of five years.

Mr. Mayo was taught the trade of carpentry and cabinet making by his father, a pioneer cabinet maker of Nevada, and made this trade his life's work.

He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church, where he was baptized, November 9, 1946, and was a true follower of this faith until his death.

Mr. Mayo was a devoted husband and father, leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Ethel; a son, Elmore, and a daughter, Mrs. Henry Larson, all of Nevada; four grandchildren, Charles Larson, Michael, Susan and Kathleen Mayo; two brothers, Ralph of Omaha, Nebraska, and George of Ames; three sisters, Mrs. Orrin Padellford and Oscar Johnson of Nevada and Mrs. Ray Cook of Ames, and a wide circle of friends and neighbors.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral service were Ralph Mayo of Omaha, Neb., George Mayo and Mrs. Ray Cook of Ames, Ralph Elmore of Port Huron, Mich., Mrs. Mayne Herr and daughter Donna of Detroit, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Town, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Belcher and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Belcher and other relatives from Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Ward McClellan of Bayard, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cook, Mr.a nd Mrs. Ray Cook, Jr., Mrs. Leonard Staker and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Van Scoy of Ames.
