Last Rites for Jerusha McConnell Sunday Afternoon

Last rites for Mrs. Jerusha McConnell, 88, who passed away Thursday evening were largely attended at the Morfoot Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2 p. m. with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiating.

The music was by Mrs. E. P. Schindler, violinist, with Mrs. Arthur Hale at the organ. Mrs. Schindler played "Silver Threads Among the Gold" by request and "Rock of Ages."

The many beautiful floral offerings testified to the esteem in which the deceased, long time resident of this community, was held.

The casket bearers were Elmore Reitz, Orland Allie, Harold Tipton, Harold Fawcett and Earl McCord. Committal was in the Nevada cemetery.

the following obituary was read at the funeral service.

"Jerusha Finley McConnell, daughter of William and Dana Finley was born at Lusa, Illinois on March 17th, 1858 She passed away peacefully at her home near Nevada on Thursday evening January 3rd, 1946 at 9:15 at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 17 days. She had been in failing health for some time.

When only 8 years of age, Mrs. McConnell same with her parents from Lusa to Story County, Iowa, where they settled on a farm a few miles south of Nevada. The trip to Iowa was made in covered wagon as far as Iowa City. Here the family was placed upon a train for the balance of the journey because of the impassable roads and wagon trails.

She was united in marriage to Simeon McConnell and they established their home at the farm now occupied by their son, Ed. Two children were born to this union, Bertha who died at the age of three, and Ed of Nevada.

Mr. and Mrs. McConnell retired and moved to Nevada in 1919. In 1926 Mr. McConnell passed away. Mrs. McConnell continued to live in Nevada until 1931 when she moved back to the farm where she has since made her home with her son, Ed.

She leaves to mourn he passing the son, Ed, one brother Oscar Finley of Salem, South Dakota; also one nephew Claude Moran of Nevada; four nieces and a host of friends.

When a young girl, the deceased united with the Church southeast of Nevada known as the Mullen Settlement Church and was a faithful Christian until her death.

Mrs. McConnell will always be remembered most kindly by those who knew her as a kind and devoted mother and a faithful friend and neighbor.
