Services for area deaths
SAM OPSTVEDT
Sam Opstvedt, 81, resident of the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown died Monday at the Home.
Services will be Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. from the Iowa Soldiers Home Chapel with burial at the Iowa Soldiers Home Cemetery.
He was born May 14, 1892 in Roland, the son of Thomas and Betsy Opstvedt. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Selma Johnson of Roland, Mrs. Gladys Chelsvig of Story City and Mrs. Isabelle Knutson of Ames; and one brother Eli Opstvedt of Story City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. He was raised and educated in the Roland area, living in the Ames area as a farm hand, and coming to the Soldiers Home in 1958. He was a veteran of the First World War and a member of the American Legion in Marshalltown.
