Lars G. Stenson Laid to Rest In Story City

Funeral services for Lars G. Stenson were held in Story City on Friday afternoon, January 23. A prayer service was held at the Henderson Funeral Home at 1:30 and 2:00 in the Immanuel Lutheran church. Rev. Samuel Carlson officiated. Miss Lillie Alsager sang a Norwegian hymn and "Rock of Ages" at the church.

Lars G. Stenson was born in Olen, in Sendhordand, Norway, Sept. 15, 1862, and passed away at the Story City hospital January 14, as the result of a fall on Jan. 11th, at the age of 83 years and four months.

Mr. Stenson came to Ellsworth, Ia., in 1881. In 1893 he was married to Mrs. Martha Johnson. They lived on a farm west of Story City until 1910 when they moved to Story City.

For some years he was a partner with Mr. John Heggen operating a grocery store. Later he served as janitor in the public school for many years. Since then he served in that capacity in the Immanuel Lutheran church. He retired from active work about seven years ago.

While the Stensons lived on the farm they were member of St. Paul's Lutheran church. Since moving to Story City they were active members of Immanuel church. Mr. Stenson was for many years a teacher in the Sunday School. Mrs. Stenson passed away November 30, 1935.

Mr. Stenson is survived by two adoptive children, Dr. Gerhard Stenson of Yankton, S. Dak. and Birdie Stenson of Story City.

Pall bearers were Oscar Sunnoe, Otis and Arnold Frette, Oreas Boe, Harry Jacobson and Omar Olson.
