Last Rites for Halvor Knutson At Story City
Funeral services for Halvor Knutson were held in the Henderson Funeral Home in Story City on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 and 2:00 in the Immanuel Lutheran church with Rev. Samuel Carlsen in charge. Sonja Carlsen sang a solo at the church.
Pall bearers were Wm. S. Starkey, Carl Thompson, Ross McConnell, Glenn Rullesta, Darrel and Duane Doolittle. Burial was in the Story City cemetery.
Halvor Knutson was born in Telemarken, Norway, March 17, 1866. He came with his parents, Knut and Julia Halvorson to Story City, in 1868, and lived on a farm 4 miles south of Story City where he grew to manhood.
For about 25 years he operated a farm near Graettinger, Iowa.
On December 1, 1915, he was married to Anna Malinda Mathre, and since then they have resided in Story City where he worked mainly as a carpenter until retirement age came.
He has been in failing health for some months, and in the last month has lost strength rapidly. Death came to him Wednesday evening, January 15 at the Story City Hospital, where he had been a patient since Jan. 13th, when fire broke out in his home.
He has been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
His is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Mary Doolittle, and three brothers, Julius, Ole, and Nels, all of Story City.
