DEATH OF A. J. HOVLAND
Items of Interest From Story City and Vicinity.

Story City, Nov. 13--A. J. Hovland, whose death was chronicled last week, was born in Bommel, Norway, March 3, 1848, being past 64 years at time of his death. His last illness extended over a period of only four weeks. He was taken to Des Moines on Friday and on Sunday evening, surrounded by his wife and children, passed away at the Methodist hospital. He came to Hamilton county in 1880 and three years ago moved to Story City. He was a devout church worker and will be greatly missed in the Sunday school. Mr. Hovland had been married three times. His children who survive to mourn their loss are Mrs. U. S. Olsen of Randall, Mrs. John Helgesen of Story City, Arthur Hovland who attends college at Jewell. His stepchildren are Mrs. Legvold of Frost, Minn., Henry Henderson of Rake, Mrs. Henry Notback* of Ames, Louise Henderson, and Mrs. Ole Hovland of Carpio, N. D., all except the last named were in attendance at the funeral, which took place Thursday afternoon from the Bethel church, Rev. Paulsrud officiating. Rev. Sandven of Roland, also spoke a few words of consolation to the bereaved family. A great many flowers were sent by sympathetic friends and relatives. The remains were were laid to rest in Fairview cemetery.Mrs. Hans Legvold left Monday for her home at Frost, Minn., after spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Andrew Hovland. She came here to attend the Hovland of her step-father, Andrew Hovland.
