GARDEN CITY MAN DEAD

John Stevenson of Garden City Was Buried

McCallsburg, Dec. 4--John Stevenson of Garden City father of J. S. Thompson* of this place, died at his home near Garden City last Wednesday forenoon, Nov 26. Mr. Stevenson had been quite poorly for some time but his death came as quite a surprise to his relatives. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at Garden City. Besides the Thompson family other relatives who attended the funeral from this vicinity were, the Geo. Vallem family and the Rasmus Danielson family.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: According to the 1925 Story County, Iowa census as well as the Old Age Tax Assistance Records, Jesse S. Thompson's parents Thomas Thompson and Martha Thorness. Martha Stevenson, according to the 1925 Hardin County, Iowa census, was the daughter of Jens Thorness and Steiver Michaelson. So obviously Martha (Thorness) Stevenson is the mother of Jesse Thompson.

On the 1900 Concord, Hardin County, Iowa census, John Stevenson, his wife, Martha Stevenson and son 19 year old Jessy Thompson are living together. Martha and Jessy list themselves as immigrating in 1885 while John Stevenson immigrated in 1876. Martha and John are listed as married in 1891. John Stevenson is the step father of Jesse S. Thompson, not the father as stated.
