Woman Died from Gas Asphyxiation

Ames, Nov. 12--A victim of asphyxiation, Miss Helen L. Raymond, 31, daughter of Prof. and Mrs. W. R. Raymond, died at her home here late Monday afternoon and the funeral services were held at the home here this afternoon, with Rev. H. K. Hawley of the Ames Congregational church, assisted by Dr. O. H. Cessna Iowa State college chaplin. Interment was in the college cemetery.

Miss Raymond died from asphyxiation Monday afternoon about 3 o'clock. She was found in an unconscious condition in the kitchen by her mother about 11:30 Monday morning when Mrs. Raymond returned from shopping. An unlighted gas burner on the kitchen stove was open. A physician was called and the Ames fire department responded with its "inhalator" equipment in an effort to revive the young woman. Members of the fire department worked on her from shortly after noon until nearly 1 o'clock when she was pronounced dead by two attending physicians.

Since school started this fall, Miss Raymond had been doing temporary work in the home economics department of Iowa State college. She was a graduate of the college. A twin sister, Miss Winnifred Raymond, is employed at the registrar's office. Mr. Raymond is a professor of English.
