JUDD FUNERAL TUESDAY AFTERNOON

WELL KNOWN NEVADA WOMAN LAID TO REST IN LOCAL CEMETERY

Funeral services for Mrs. V. W. Judd, 80, who died so suddenly at the family home 803 Ninth street, early Sunday, were conducted at the home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, with her pastor, Rev. Geo. A Lawton in charge.

The services were attended by a large group of relatives, old neighbors and friends and the floral offerings were many and most beautiful.

The songs were by a ladies quartette consisting of Mrs. Larson, Mrs. Freeland, Mrs. Lough and Mrs. Jacobs, while the flowers were in charge of Mrs. Art McCaffrey and Mrs. H. L. Huddlestun.

Pallbearers were Dr. Arthur, H. P. Albery, B. B. Child, H. F. Sones, G. F. Hayes and W. A. Olson.

A sister, Mrs. Overlin of Macon, Ill., was here as well as the daughters, Mrs. Ida Rasmusson and husband of Spencer and Mrs. B. H. Montgomery, husband and son Bertram Judd Montgomery.

Others from out of town here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Warren, Mrs. Sam Akins and daughters Mrs. Flutter and Mrs. Allen and Mrs. I. J. Scott of Ames.

The following obituary was read by the pastor during the services:
Mary Matilda, eldest daughter of John G. and Elizabeth Shanklin was born at Whitehall, Ill., Jan. 21, 1851 and passed away at her home in Nevada, Iowa, Nov. 2, 1930 at the age of 79 years 9 months and 11 days. She was one of a family of six girls. When she was thirteen years old the family moved to Piatt county, Illinois where they lived for three years then they move to Macon county, Ill.

On Feburary 12, 1874 she united in marriage with Van William Judd. To this union three children wer born, John O., Ida F. and Mary E. John, who was a soldier in the Spanish American war and the Philippine insurrection and served the government in Panama, died Dec. 31, 1912 in California. Ida F. is now Mrs. J. C. Rasmussen of Spencer, Iowa and Mary Elizabeth is now Mrs. B. F. Montgomery of Oak Park, Ill.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Judd mad their home at Mansfield, Ill. until Feb. 20, 1895 when they moved to Story county, Iowa, where they located on a farm two and one half miles west of Nevada. On Feb. 20, 1907 they moved from the farm to their present home in Nevada.

At the age of twelve she was converted and united with the M. E. church and lived a devoted Christian life. As long as her health permitted she took a very active part in the activities of the church and even after her health failed she continued to be a faithful attendant at the morning church service. Sister Judd united with our church here in 1895.

She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, two daughters one grandson, Judd Bertram Montgomery and two sisters, Mrs. Jone Overlin and Mrs. David Hughes both of Macon, Ill.

Mrs. Judd was very devoted to her family. She was kind, patient and affectionate. She was loved not only by her family but by her friends and neighbors.
