Old Pioneer Passes Away
Ira Campbell Dies at Ripe Old Age at Collins
Ira Campbell died at his home in Collins Tuesday of last week at the age of 80 years. The deceased lived in Jasper county for many years and was an Iowa pioneer. Some years ago he moved to the village of Collins and lived a retired life.
He was an uncle to Mrs. D. R. Tripp of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Tripp attended the funeral last Thursday and are still there. D. R came home Tuesday to vote but returned to Collins the next morning.
Source: The Colfax (IA) Clipper; November 09, 1916Ira Campbell was born in Meigs county, Ohio, September 21, 1836. Died at his home at Collins, October 21, 1916, aged 80 years. He suffered a stroke of apoplexy and lived just 24 hours. His wife Emily Green Campbell passed on 19 years ago. They came to Lee county after their marriage in 1856 and later to Jasper county near Clyde moving to Collins in 1890. Nine children were born to this union; three died in infancy, Charles in 1909 and five, Alice, Ellsworth, Curtis, Frank and Clarence with four grandchildren survive and cared for him in his last illness. One brother, Alva, of Ohio, is the only one left of a pioneer family of nine. He was a carpenter and farmer an industrious and faithful worker. The funeral was conducted at Collins Church of Christ by Rev. A. B. Kern. Interment was at Collins cemetery. The flowers were many and beautiful. A double quartette sang sweet songs and a large crowd of friends attended.
