John S. H. Jondall (1869-1941)

John S. H. Jondall was born in Hardanger, Jondall, Norway on Sept. 15. 1869, and died at his home in Story City on Monday, Dec. 1, 1941, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 15 days.

He came to this country at the age of 22, and has lived in this community over 45 years.

On Sept. 25, 1896, he was united in marriage to Martha Monson of Story City, and to this union nine children were born, three of whom having passed away. The others are: Sylvia of Eugene, Ore., Minnie of Des Moines, Josephine of Chicago, Clara of Story City, Al and Milford of Chicago.

Mr. Jondall had been in ill health for some time, and on Friday night, Nov. 28, he took suddenly ill with a paralytic stroke from which only once he became conscious and then went into a coma again.

He is survived by his wife and six children, all of whom were there at his bedside, with the exception of Mrs. Quam.

The funeral was held Dec. 4 at the home, with Rev. S. T. Nelson officiating, and also at Bergen Lutheran church in Roland, with both Rev. S. T. Nelson of Story City and Rev. M. O. Sumstad of Roland officiating. Burial was made at the Roland cemetery. Pall bearers were John Michaelson, T. I. Sampson. T. C. Jacobson, Peter Teig of Roland, A. G. Larson of Story City, and Hosea Jondall of Ames.

Those attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Josephine Luft, Al and Milford Jondall and wife of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hurley and Betty of Des Moines. Mrs. Esther Wheaton Jondall of Ft. Dodge, Mrs. Harry Jacobson, Julia, Ole, Lars and Martin Monson, Betsy Monson, Clarence Monson, Albert Monson and Theresa Monson, all of Story City, Mrs. Elden Hand and Hosea Jondall of Ames.

We wish to express our sincere thanks for the beautiful flowers, and appreciation of our neighbors, friends and relatives for their kindness and sympathy shown us during the recent death and burial of our beloved husband and father.
