From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Joan A. Egland, 90, of Nevada, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Windsor Manor in Nevada.

Joan was born October 11, 1927 at Roland, Iowa, to Joseph and Ada (Sorenson) Hill--and into what would become a large and thriving farm family. Upon graduation from Roland High School Joan attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Her college experience came to a halt when she married the first love of her life, Norman A. Prati of Nevada, Iowa, on December 14, 1947. Together they had children, Steve, Neal and Tonnee. Norman died suddenly of a medical condition in 1952. Joan carried on with grace, and the help of large body of family and friends until one day 1956 when she met the other great love of her life, Stanley Egland. They married on August 13, 1956 and completed their family with two daughters, Cindy and Nancy. The new Egland family soon moved to a farm north of Nevada and began what would be a long and happy life filled with 4-H, regular family gatherings with the Hill and Egland families in Roland, and a busy farm life. Joan led a life full of activity; she loved her friends, her bridge club, her church, crafts, sewing, baking, and generally being a mom who was always there for her kids. Somehow Joan always managed it all with style and grace. She loved fashion and fine clothes and social life with a wide range of friends. Later in life Joan and Stan were able to share adventures and travel: all over the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. Upon Stan's passing in 2005, Joan once again picked up and carried on--filling her life with family, friends, exercise and activity. She was a frequent sight at The Stam--where she loved a cup of coffee and a chocolate truffle.

Joan filled the lives and hearts of many people during her ninety years--she will not be forgotten.

Joan is survived by two sons: Steve (Myra McLarey) Prati and of Franklin, Tennessee, Neal (Jill) Prati of Cummings, Iowa; three daughters: Tonnee (Dennis) Wilkening of Nevada, Iowa, Cindy (Dennie) Anderson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Nancy Wirth of Maple Grove, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jake Hill of Loveland, Colorado, Dean (Shorty) Hill of McCallsburg, Iowa; five sisters: Geneva (Morris) Van Sickle of Nevada, Iowa, Pauline Johnson of Nevada, Iowa, Lucy Hopkins of Houston, Texas, Linda (Mike) Halbach of Urbana, Illinois, Judy Olson of Story City, Iowa; and a sister-in-law: Marilyn Hill of Roland, Iowa.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers: William Hill in infancy, Joseph Hill, Jr.; and a sister: Shirley Kingsbury.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Rasmusson – Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Nevada.

Interment will be in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
