Obituary From Boeke Funeral Homes, Hardin County, Iowa.

Jerry DeBoer, age 77 of Ames, IA, passed away on Sunday, Sep 24, 2017 at his residence with his family by his side.

Jerald Lee DeBoer was born in Aplington, IA on February 14, 1940 to Jurjen and Rena (Flesner) DeBoer.

He went to country school through the 8th grade. He attended Aplington High School graduating with the Class of 1958. In May 1959, he volunteered for the Army, completed his basic training at Fort Carson, CO and then went to Fort Bliss, TX for Missile School. After his missile training he was stationed at Fairbanks, AL with the 2nd Ballistic Missile Battalion for 15 months and made special lasting friends. He was honorably discharged April 30, 1961.

Jerry then moved to Grundy Center, IA and worked for Hawkeye Plumbing. On September 15, 1962, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ploeger and lived in Grundy Center, IA. They moved to Aplington where Jerry worked for Howard Best on the farm. Their son, Brian was born in 1963. In February 1964, Jerry, Ruth and Brian moved to Hubbard, IA. Jerry worked for Moorman Feed as a salesman for five years. Their daughter Kristi was born in 1964. In the spring of 1965, they moved to the VanPatter farm and lived there for six years. Jerry became manager of the Hubbard Ready Mix in 1968. Their daughter Kala was born in 1969.

In November 1971, Jerry, Ruth and their children moved into their new home in Hubbard where they lived for 25 years. During that time, the Hubbard Ready Mix closed and Jerry became the manager of the State Center Ready Mix Plant and then the Story City Ready Mix Plant. In 1989, Jerry and Ruth moved to Ames, IA.

In his retirement, Jerry worked for Lepper Construction for many years. Later he was a part time Herta Bus Driver for thirteen years. He always enjoyed the people who rode the bus.

Jerry was a volunteer fireman for the Hubbard Fire Department from 1971-1989 and a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Hubbard for many years and then the First United Methodist Church in Ames,IA. He was also member of the William F. Ball Post #48 American Legion Nevada, IA.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years Ruth of Ames, IA; son Brian (Tiff) of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughter Kristi (Pete) Bahl of Lisbon, IA; grandchildren Jacob (Jenn) DeBoer, Joshua DeBoer, Jenna DeBoer, Michael Bahl, Jordan Bahl and Payton Bahl; his special peanut great-grandson Baylor Reign; sister Sheryl (Bill) Hansen and sister-in-law Maxine; along with many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jurjen and Rena DeBoer, his daughter Kala Jean, brothers Henry Wayne and Ron DeBoer and sister Marian Becker.

In leui of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established in his honor.
