From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:
Dorothy A. Olson, 92, passed away peacefully at Windsor Manor in Nevada, Iowa, on September 5, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.Dorothy Ann McIntosh was born June 5, 1925, in Colo Iowa, to Robert Earl and Gladys Ester (Granger) McIntosh. She graduated from Colo High School in 1942. On November 30, 1943, she married John V. Fry from Nevada; together they had eight children. Dorothy was a kind, loving, and fun mother to her children. She had a soft heart, yet a strong will to help them all succeed in whatever they pursued. She brought humor and joy when times were tough.
Dorothy also worked outside the home at R.H. Donnelley’s for many years. John passed away suddenly on December 13, 1967, leaving Dorothy a widow at 42 years of age. On August 1, 1971, she married L. Wayne Olson of Keota, Iowa. She moved to Keota and worked alongside Wayne in his Rexall Drug Store as a bookkeeper until their retirement in 1995.
During their 38-year marriage, Dorothy and Wayne loved to travel, both around the United States and abroad. They were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans and followed the football team to several bowl games. Dorothy enjoyed playing pinochle and golfing, especially with the girls; she was thrilled to score a hole in one at Lagos Acres Golf Club!
She was an active member of the United Church of Faith in Keota and helped with many activities, including Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed baking and cooking and always made sure there was enough food for everyone – whomever her kids might bring home to dinner. She loved music, and was a great dancer! She enjoyed puzzles and poetry, and a good joke too.
Dorothy is survived by seven of her children: Dennis (Janet) Fry of Harlan, IA; Carol Dodge of Burlington, IA; Mike (Arlene) Fry of Nevada, IA; Sandy (Elwyn) Myhre of Nevada, IA; Constance (Steve) Soesbe of Nevada, IA; Cliff (Linda) Fry of Kalona, IA; and Debra Fry (Doug Wunder) of Ankeny, IA; daughter-in-law Lynn Fry of Belleair, FL; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and brother Clare (Mary) McIntosh of Pleasant Hill, IA; She was preceded in death by her parents, spouses John and Wayne; sisters Harriett Hamilton, Wilma McIntosh, and Helen Bradshaw; brother Darrell McIntosh; son-in-law James Dodge; three grandchildren; and on July 31, 2017, her son Richard W. (Dick) Fry.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017, 1:00-2:30 pm at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy, Nevada, IA. A private family graveside service will follow at Murphy Cemetery, rural Nevada.
