Howard John Kyle was born July 7, 1931 to George and Edna (Skeers) Kyle in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from Ames High School and on October 7, 1950, married Delores West at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Howard served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1950 to 1954. Howard worked for over 30 years in the electric distribution department for the city of Ames.
Howard was a member of Heartland Baptist Church, member and past Post Commander of American Legion Post #37, the American Legion Honor Guard, and member and past Supreme Governor of the Ames Moose Lodge #520. Howard was the first veteran to be Grand Marshall of the Ames 4th of July parade in 2016. He enjoyed bowling and working on cars, but his greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.
Howard passed away at 85 years of age on June 11, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Howard is survived by his son, Mike (Lori) Kyle of Bondurant; his daughter, Naylene (Donald) Crispin of Madrid; his grandchildren, Aaron (Jana) Kyle, Brianne Carl, Matthew Crispin and Jacquelyn (Zach) Schrader; his great-grandchildren, Aiden Carl, Micah Kyle and Addison Schrader; and three sisters, Marilyn (Everett) Freel, Carole (Don) Gearhart and Donna Luther.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Kyle; his son, Steven Kyle; an infant daughter, Pamela Kyle; his brother, Merit Kyle; and his sister, Barbara Van Voorhis.
