Irene Edna Brown was born November 22, 1941 to Nicholas and Lillian (Sharp) Boyachek in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. Irene lived in Canada until she was 24 years old, moving to Ames in 1965. She worked for over 38 years in the accounting department at the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring in 2006. She was a beloved member of Heartland Baptist Church in Ames and was an avid card player, especially cribbage, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In her later years, Irene got great enjoyment feeding the bunnies and squirrels and then watching them through her kitchen window eat and play. Irene shared with everyone and was a caring, loving, and beautiful soul.

Irene passed away at 75 years of age on June 10, 2017 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Irene is survived by her children, Berna Strain of Nashville, Tenn., Sherry (Charles) Heath of Springfield, Mo., and Robert Brown of Ames; five grandchildren, Abigail Strain, Nathan Strain and Lillian Strain, all of Knoxville, Tenn. and Samantha (Gabriel) Jacome and Shaynie Heath, both of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Sophia Jacome and Oliver Jacome; her brother, Robert (Ilene) Boyachek of Portage la Prairie; and her sister, Betty (Gus) Finson, of Gimli, Manitoba, Canada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Frank Boyachek; and one sister, Dorothy Thompson.
