William Hole Van Horn
April 14, 1919-March 19, 1994William Hole Van Horn, 74, of North Vancouver, British Columbia formerly of Ames, died March 19 of cancer in Canada. The body has been cremated, and memorial graveside services will be Friday, July 8, at 10 a.m. at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
William Hole Van Horn was born in Marshalltown. He was a 1941 graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, and a 1942 graduate of the University of Iowa to Iowa Ceity, with degrees in German. From 1842 to 1946, he served in military intelligence as a captain for the U. S. Army. A resident of the Ames and Nevada area for seven years, he was chief editor of the Iowa State University Press from 1952-1959. From 1959 to 1962, he was chief editor of the University of California Press. He moved in 1962 to North Vancouver, where he worked as a teacher until retiring in 1970. He then resided for three years in Devon, England, before moving to Southern France in 1974. In 1988, he returned to Vancouver. He was a member of the Anglican Church.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Jandro of Balboa, California.
