OBITUARY

John Schermerhorn

Word comes of the death during the week at his home in Illinois of John Schermerhorn, at one time one of the well-known men of the county. He has been gone from this county something like twenty-five years and so far as we know he has never been back since his removal; but old-timers will note his death with regret and will remember his kindly. He owned and occupied the farm on the Ames road next west of the tile factory, and he had there some of the finest trotting horses that have ever been in Story county. Particularly will he be remembered as having been the owner and driver of "Trampoline," who was much the finest and fastest Hambletonian in these parts thirty years ago. He was 72 years of age at the time of his death.
