KILLED BY HORSE
Jordan Ballard of Grant Township Struck Fatally
Mrs. Jordan Ballard, one of the wealthy and well known farmers of Grant township, died this morning as the result of an injury tha he received from one of his horses Friday. He was not kicked but was struck by the fore foot of the horse whose feet he was working with. The blow hit him in the upper part of his bowels, and the consequences were at once serious. Dr. McCarthy of Des Moines was sent for and he performed an operation Sunday but the operation appears to have been without material benefit, and so noted the patient died this morning.
Mr. Ballard was fifty-six years of age and a native of Keokuk county. He located on his farm in Grant township twenty-six years ago, and had since resided there, save for one year, when he moved into Nevada. He was a man of ability and character, and was highly regarded by the people who knew him. He leaves a wife and children. His funeral will be conducted at Shipley Wednesday at one o'clock.
