OBITUARY
DEATH OF MRS. THOS. POOL.
Mrs. Maria Catherine Pool, wife of Thos. Pool, died at the family home in this city at nine o'clock Saturday morning of cancer of the the stomach. Her serious illness had not been of long duration; but the hopelessness of her condition had been recognized, and many of her relatives and friends were near then the end of her life came.
Mrs. Pool was the third child and elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Balliett and was a member of a family well and favorably known throughout this section She was born in Crawford county, Pennsylvania, August 8, 1842, and died at Nevada, Iowa, December 15, 1906, aged 65 years, 4 months and 7 days. Her family moved in 1845 to Illinois, and there she grew up and was married in 1864 to James Hutchins, by whom she had two daughters, Mrs. Cora Bolton of Zearing in this county and Mrs. Lena Banks of Ames. They came from Illinois to Nevada in 1871, and here her home afterwards remained. She was again married about 1882 to Thos. Pool of this city, who survives her. Mrs. Pool leaves also her daughters, both of whom have families of their own, and her brothers and sister, Judge S. F. Balliett of Des Moines, Jas. M. of the same city, Atty. Chas. H. of Omaha, Jos. R. of Belvidere, Illinois, George of Miller, South Dakota, Atty. Sam'l. A. of Helena, Montana, and Mrs. Frank Burdick of Ames. Of these all except Ja., George and Samuel were here at the time of her death and Jas. with the others before named will be here to the funeral, which will be held on Tuesday afternoon at the house by Rev. R. E. Shaw.
