OBITUARY

Death of H. L. Ballard

Word was received by Nevada relatives Wednesday announcing the death that morning of Hudson L. Ballard at his home in Altona, Missouri. Mr. Ballard was born in Smyrna, New York, March 28, 1828 and died as stated May 3d at the full age of 83 years, one month and five days. He came to Iowa in 1861 and located in Howard township where he was a continuous resident until a little more than four years ago when he moved to Missouri. His fatal illness was kidney trouble and dropsy from which he had been suffering for six months or more. He leaves a wife and four children and several grand-children to morn his passing. The children are Mrs. W. O. Bates whose home is near the parental home, Arthur Ballard of St. Charles, Iowa, and Park and Bert of St. Louis, Missouri. Mrs. H. H. Boyes and Mrs. H. F. Ferguson of this city are sisters and Mrs. J. W. Sowers, a niece of the deceased. Mr. Ballard was a son of the late Dr. Ballard and like the other members of the family made a record of good citizenship and worthy life.
