OBITUARY
Mrs. Dorthea Jacobosn
The funeral of Mrs. Dorthea Jacobson, one of the early settlers of Howard township, was conducted at Bergen church in Roland Friday, be her pastor, Rev. Smedal, her death having occurred on Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ole J. Jacobson. Her age was 86 years and 11 days. She had been quite ill a long time and she passed peacefully out of her weariness and suffering.
Dorthea Thompson came in 1854 at the age of nineteen with the company of her people from Stavanger, Norway, to Lisbon, Illinois, where she married her fellow passenger, Claus Jacobson, and lived on a farm till in 1865 they became a part of the large migration to Howard township, Story county, Iowa. They secured a farm which continued their home for nearly thirty years, then removed to Roland. There Mr. Jacobson passed away in 1898 and thence forward her home was with one of her children. Her living descendants are her sons and daughters J. C. Jacobson, Mrs. A. J. Jacobson, and Mrs. Julia C. Rod, all of Roland, Mrs. Secilia Teig of Lakefield, Minn. and Mrs. T. C. Jacobson of Forest City also her twenty-five grand-children and four great grand-children She earned their reverence and is affectionately remembered by all who knew her worth.
