ROLAND ROCKETS

Ove J. Barke, the oldest citizen of Roland and one of the oldest in Story county died at his home in this city on November 22 aged ninety three years. He was born in Norway November 13, 1821, was married to Ellen Anderson in 1848. Came to America and direct to Story county in 1872 and settled on a farm east of Roland. Mrs. Barke died in 1875. Of this union seven children were born but only two are now living, John of Fergus Falls, Minnesota and M. O. of Canada. In 1880 Ove Barke was again married to Anna Swenson who survives him. In 1888 they left the farm and located in Roland.

Funeral services were held at Bergen's church Wednesday conducted by Rev. Smedal. If all men would live as had lived Ove Barke there would be no evil in the world and no one would suffer by the bad acts of others.
