Jerry Lee Evans, 82, of Maxwell, Iowa formerly of Jesup, Iowa passed away Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Madrid Home in Madrid from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Jerry was born March 28, 1934, in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Willis Julius and Clara Mae (Garrow) Evans. He graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1952 and attended three years of college at the University of Illinois and Platteville Teachers College. Jerry served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956. On September 8, 1956, Jerry was united in marriage to Ida Ann Winter in Elizabeth, Illinois. He spent most of his life in Jesup, Iowa and worked for John Deere in Waterloo, retiring in 1994. While living in Jesup, he was active with the volunteer fire department and police department, the Jesup City Council and Lions Club. In 2014, Jerry moved to the Maxwell area.

Jerry was a devoted Christian and celebrated his spiritual birthday on May 1990. He was a member of the Maxwell Christian Church in Maxwell and the American Legion Post #342 in Jesup. He enjoyed birdwatching and riding his bike. Jerry loved spending time with his friends and family.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ida; his son, William (Pam) Evans of Kalona, IA; his daughter, Candy (Steve) Frahm of Maxwell; his grandchildren: Jill (Matt) Riemenschneider, Janelle (Syrus) Miller, Michael, Rebekah, Rachel, Sarah, Hannah and Daniel Evans; and his great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Garrett, Brett and Emma. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters in infancy.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Maxwell Christian Church in Maxwell. Burial of cremated remains will be in the Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Schapville, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WesleyLife Hospice in memory of Jerry.
