OBITUARY
SAMUEL MEEK BROWN.
Samuel Meek Brown, since September last a resident of Ames, died at that place Saturday, April 16th, 1914. His funeral was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. H. Emery of Ames on Monday at ten o'clock Rev. R. E. Thompson, of the M. E. church officiating. The burial took place at Nevada.
The deceased was seventy six years of age had lived in the state since 1862, settling first on a farm in Poweshiek county afterward living in Brooklyn for three years and moving thence to Grinnell, where he lived until he came to Ames last September. He was married in 1861 to Victoria Merriman, who died in 1868. One daughter Mrs. H. E. Emery of Ames was born to this union. In 1872 he married Sarah Jane McBurney, in Guernsey county, Ohio and to this union were born one daughter and four sons, one of whom Ray T. Brown is a citizen of Nevada, and all of whom with their mother survive him. There are also nine grandchildren. He had bee in fair health till about two weeks ago since which time he had failed very fast. That he was an excellent citizen, faithful in the discharge of duty loved by family and friends is the testimony of those who had known him longest.
