This is my Grandmother's (Margaret Cole) oldest brother Harlan's son.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames, with the Rev. Scott Grotewold officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Jess N. Cole was born July 20, 1906, in Brighton, the son of Harlan and Lucy (Darnell) Cole. He lived in Ames from 1915 to 1919. He graduated from Ames High School in 1925. He attended the University of Northern Iowa until 1929. He lived in Roland from 1929 to 1931. He returned to UNI and received his Bachelor of Science degree. He moved to Vinton in 1932. He was a principal there until 1936. He married Janet Simpson on July 1, 1935, at Simpson United Methodist Church in Minneapolis. Until 1941 he lived in Crystal Lake, Ill. He moved to Ames in 1941. He retired in 1971. He was a past president of Noon Lions Club, director of the United Way of Ames, director of Ames Savings Bank and director and founder of Northcrest Retirement Community. He was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church. He is survived by his two sons, James S. Cole of Raleigh, N.C., and Jess N. Cole Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one sister; and one brother.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service Saturday at Collegiate United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to the Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
