Roy (Royden)Danskin, son of George and Elizabeth (Clyde)was born at the family home, north of Colo, (IA)Jan 24, 1888 and died Dec 26th 1903, aged 15 years, 11 months and 2 days. He was converted and united with the M.E. church in Colo over a year ago and remained a faithful and worthy member until called from the church militant to the church triumphant. The last Sunday evening before he went home and took sick he was at League as usual and testified to his faith in Christ and his purposes for the new year. What a fittin close for a year's service for the master as well as close of his young life. Last year he graduated from the Colo High School and would have graduated from the Nevada High School this year if he had lived. Prof. L.B. Carlisle of Nevada with the class to which Roy belonged, attended the funeral in a body as also did Prof. M.C. Morrison and last year's graduating class of the Colo school of which deceased was also a member.
A young life has gone out-we cannot understand the mysteries of the Father's dealings with us, in taking from home and loved ones this young man just starting out in life and with the brightest possible prospects for the future. But, "There had whispered a voice, "twas the voice of our God; I loved thee, I love thee, I love thee, pass under the rod." We bow to thy providence and say, "Thy will be done."
Deceased was a young man of exemplary habits and an upright christian character and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be missed in the home thus made sad by his sudden departure and by the large circle of friends as well, who held him in high esteem. His last illness was of only a brief duration, being sick on Monday morning with appendicitis and dispite all that physicians and loving hands could do, he passed to his eternal reward the following Saturday morning.
The funeral services were held in the M.E. Church Monday afternoon, Dec 28 at 1:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev Boreman, assisted by Rev Bamford. Interment was in the Colo Cemetery, Colo, Story Co. IA.
