TWO PIONEERS CALLED BY DEATH

INGEBRIT EGGLAND
AND LARS L. BAKKA
ANSWER SUMMONS PAST WEEK

This community has lost two of its prominent citizens the past week, Lars. L. Bakka having passed away at the University hospital at Iowa City Saturday morning, and Ingebrit Eggland at the home of his daughter, Mr. And Mrs. O. M. Grove Sunday evening. The latter had attained the age of eighty years, while the former was 61 years at the time of his death.

Ingebrit Eggland
Ingebrit Eggland was born November 16, 1844 at Shandavold, Etne, Norway, and died in Roland Sunday, June 14, 1925, being 80 years, 6 months and 28 days old at the time of his death.

He came to the United States in 1866, coming direct to Roland, where he has since made his home. He started farming in 1870 and retired from the farm in 1902, and has lived in town since that time, the past two years of which he made his home at the home of his daughter, Mr. And Mrs. O. M. Grove.

He was united in marriage March 17, 1870 to Guro Simmons, the ceremony being performed at the church near Story City by Rev. N. Amlund. His wife preceded him in death on June 28, 1913. Eight children were born to this union, seven of whom survive their father. One daughter, Mary, died in 1897. Those living are Mrs. O. M. Grove, Osmund I., Sam, Albert, Adolph, Julia, and Martin M. Eggland. He is also survived by two sisters in Norway, Inger Ingelsherd and Karina Leland, they being the only ones now living of a family of 12 brothers and Sisters. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, besides numerous other relatives and friends.

The decease was one of the pioneers who helped to build up this community and was active even in his old age. He had been ill about seven months, but was not confined to his bed for more than two weeks before he died. Funeral services were held from Salem church, of which he was a member, yesterday, Rev. J. N. Sandven officiating, there being a large number present at the funeral. Interment took place in the Roland cemetery.
