Mervin “Merv” Edgar Jennings, 84, of Nevada, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Merv was born October 13, 1931, in Fort Dodge, the son of George and Beola (Heileman) Jennings. He moved to Cambridge at age one and attended school there until eighth grade. He graduated from Slater High School in 1949, and was united in marriage to Ilene Picht on June 6, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fernald. Merv worked for the Iowa DOT, retiring in 1992 after 42 years.

Merv was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and was a 50 year member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge #99, where he also served as a Rainbow Dad. He was very handy and enjoyed gardening and flowers and watching Iowa State football and basketball.

Merv is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ilene of Nevada; his children: Stephen (Deb) Jennings of Nevada, Brian (Denise) Jennings of Onawa, Vicki Meints of Sheffield and Jean (Aaron) Borton of Nevada; his sisters: Muriel (Bob) Stevens of Nevada and Sherrill Corbin of Nevada; eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Marion Edward Jennings; and a son-in-law, Wendell Meints.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Private inurnment will be in Center Grove Cemetery near Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nevada Memorial Lutheran Church or the Masonic Lodge #99 Scholarship Fund.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
